Miller Blue
"The Orchestral Sessions"

A glowing light within the UK Alt-R&B space

A glowing light within the UK Alt-R&B space, Miller Blue releases new EP The Orchestral Sessions, via Tiger Bright. The EP is a beautiful re-upholstering of singles from his back catalogue, Miller working alongside Slovenian producer Sare Havlicek who enlisted a small string orchestra to reimagine the tracks.
With enough time passed since the original recordings, Miller approaches these earlier works with renewed clarity and intention. Each track carries a deeper sense of thoughtfulness, demonstrating his growth as both a vocalist and songwriter.
A dramatic soundscape is found across the EP, with tracks like ‘House of Mine’ unfolding like a theatre performance. The heartwarming hook sets the tone before Miller flips the mood with a reflective rap verse that reminisces on his adolescent years “Young prodigy I could never know the way, So I just roll a J and let the time pass”. EP opener, ‘Blush’ is an atmospheric refinement of one of Miller’s most beloved songs; replacing the layered harmonies and vocal runs with sweeping strings, the track takes on a new emotional depth, bringing its core sentiment to the surface. A sense of introspection continues on ‘Sunflower’, where Miller and Sare switched the original’s laid-back acoustic guitar with a more delicate, string-led arrangement.
This journey of growth carries into ‘Rhythm in the Dance’, with the maestro venturing into an unexpected yet fitting musical space, with a progressive orchestral effort, expanding his sonic palette while managing to stay true to the boom bap energy of the original. The second release in the lead up to the project and his biggest single to date, ‘Us’ excellently captures the cinematic approach they set out to create, with help from a selection of Slovenia's finest classically trained musicians, the production is elevated with sweeping strings and delicate instrumentation offer space for both tenderness and tension, transforming the song into a soulful, orchestral meditation on love and its uncertainties.
When discussing the EP, Miller explains, “This whole project was about reimagining, not just the songs, but who I was when I wrote them. I’ve always loved the idea of giving a song space to evolve, and collaborating with Sare really brought that to life. He brought a whole new emotional language to these pieces, pulling out subtle moments, hidden meanings, and letting the instrumentation breathe in a way that surprised me. At its heart, this album is a celebration of change, of reflection, and of creative freedom. It reminded me that play, imagination, and vulnerability are where I do my best work.
Despite its highly vivid sound and feel, producer Sare reveals that a big budget isn’t necessary to create a rich sonic experience, as he explains: “The idea was to take everyday sounds and transform them into something expansive and cinematic. We used this approach throughout the entire album. It helped us create a dreamy, surreal atmosphere where everything sounds familiar but strange at the same time — sort of like stepping into a fantasy world.” Much of the inspiration behind these orchestral remakes has stemmed from the legendary Japanese animators Studio Ghibli, as Sare shares: “There was something in their emotional tone and atmosphere that we wanted to capture and translate into the music.”
Miller Blue first gained attention with the release of his 2019 debut EP Cotton, introducing a soulful, jazz-infused sound and followed up with Sunflower in 2020; a genre-blending project merging smooth R&B, electronica, and jazz. Standout single ’Us’, from Sunflower has garnered over 11 million streams on Spotify alone and led to Miller securing a live performance of the track for COLORS’ HOME/BRED sessions during the pandemic. In 2021, he dropped the introspective The Tree of Tenéré, further cementing his reputation for heartfelt and imginative songwriting. Most recently, his 2023 EP 4 Degrees of Separation offered a deeper exploration of love and relationships, showcasing his growth both lyrically and sonically. Throughout his career, Miller has accumulated millions streams across his growing catalogue and has received support from key tastemakers including Notion, CLASH, and Complex UK, earning his status as an essential voice in the UK alt-R&B scene
Orchestral Sessions is the perfect showcase of Miller Blue’s flowering artistry. More than just a gift to fans, it stands as a testament to nearly a decade of dedication and creative growth. Embracing the passage of time, Miller revisits his earlier work with warmth and intention. For new listeners, it offers an inviting glimpse into the roots of his sound; for long-time fans, it’s a chance to rediscover and reconnect with past moments and versions of themselves.
