Miller Blue
"Blush (The Orchestral Sessions)"
Miller Blue stuns with the emotive orchestral version of his adored single ‘Blush’
UK R&B and soul singer Miller Blue returns with an orchestral version of his 2021 track ‘Blush’ as he kicks off the road to his Orchestral Sessions EP - a reimagining of singles from his back catalogue. In creating the EP, Miller worked alongside Slovenian producer Sare Havlicek who enlisted a small string orchestra to create the upcoming EP.
Nearly half a decade removed from the original release of ‘Blush’, it’s clear that Miller Blue approaches his music with a new level of intention, each lyric carrying an added layer of thoughtfulness. Blush (Orchestral Version)’ plays like a daydream, a gentle return to a different version of himself. Stripping back the acoustic-led track by removing its layered harmonies and vocal runs, the song still manages to retain the same urgency and warmth. With drums removed and emotive strings taking centre stage, the arrangement adds a fresh depth and opulence that elevates the track to something truly special.
Despite its highly vivid sound and feel, producer Sare reveals that a big budget isn’t necessary to create a rich sonic experience, as he explains: “The idea was to take everyday sounds and transform them into something expansive and cinematic. We used this approach throughout the entire album. It helped us create a dreamy, surreal atmosphere where everything sounds familiar but strange at the same time — sort of like stepping into a fantasy world.” Much of the inspiration behind these orchestral remakes has stemmed from the legendary Japanese animators Studio Ghibli, as Sare shares: “There was something in their emotional tone and atmosphere that we wanted to capture and translate into the music.”
In creating the EP, both Miller and Sare spent an extended period of time in the studio toying with different ideas on which direction he wanted to take the EP in, as he explains: “We sat in the studio playing around with different textures / ideas and really trying to build the world I had in my mind. It was a cool process where he really let me explore through conversation the images I had in my mind and then we tried our best to translate them” and added “as we discussed our love of music he said how cool a few of my songs would sound with an orchestra. I agreed and explained it’s something I’d always wanted to do and as luck would have it he had very close ties to one so we eventually agreed on a deal and I flew over there to begin recording. Before the recording itself we had someone score the parts and I recorded some reference vocal demos until we were all happy with what we wanted”
Having accumulated millions of streams across his flourishing catalogue, Miller Blue has garnered support from key tastemakers including COLORS, Notion Magazine, CLASH and Complex UK, validating him as an essential voice in the current scene. His smooth honey-like vocals glide effortlessly across his perfectly matched productions for an easy listening experience.
With the release of ‘Blush (Orchestral Version), Miller Blue shows that he’s an artist who’s unafraid to revisit and reimagine his past. Rather than distancing himself from earlier work, he leans in, allowing it to breathe a new lease of life. For new listeners, it’s an invitation into the early days of his; for long-time fans, a chance to rediscover and re-feel.
